Discover the Magic
Visiting the Blue Pond for the second time was truly magical, especially during a winter night. The beauty of the pond is very different during the day and in the summer. It was a fun travel day; we started our day in Tokyo at 5 a.m. We're very proud of our 16-month-old baby boy; he just started saying "blueee" this week, so it was fitting to visit the "Blue Pond" today. Overall, it's been a great day. From Tokyo, we had a 1.5-hour flight via Jetstar from Narita to Asahikawa airport. One great thing about traveling domestically in Japan is that you can always make use of very reliable luggage delivery. Three days before our trip, we shipped our luggage, so it was already at the hotel waiting for us. This was especially convenient for us as a family traveling with a baby and having a lot of stuff to carry. For more details about Japan’s reliable courier service, you can check out this episode.
Nestled amidst the pristine landscapes of Biei, Hokkaido lies a natural wonder that has captured the hearts of travelers and photographers alike - the Shirogane Blue Pond. Its ethereal beauty, characterized by an otherworldly blue hue, has earned it a reputation as one of Japan's most enchanting sights.
The Mystery of the Blue Pond
But what makes this pond so extraordinary? The answer lies in a fascinating interplay of nature's elements. Formed in the aftermath of a volcanic eruption, the pond's unique color results from the interaction between aluminum hydroxide particles suspended in the water and the sunlight filtering through. The result is a mesmerizing spectrum of blues, greens, and turquoise that shift and change with the time of day and weather conditions.
Visiting the Blue Pond is a journey into tranquility and wonder. As you stand on the wooden walkway that winds around the pond, you can't help but be captivated by the mirror-like reflection of the sky and the surrounding trees.
Travel Tips:
Best time to visit: The Blue Pond is stunning year-round, but many visitors agree that autumn offers the most vibrant colors.
Photography: Bring your camera! The pond is a photographer's paradise, with countless opportunities to capture its beauty.
Respect nature: Please leave no trace and respect the natural environment.
Plan Your Visit
The Blue Pond is located in Biei, Hokkaido, and is easily accessible by car. A parking lot is available for visitors, and the pond is a short walk from the parking area.
